I bought this grill in october 2017 and have tried to use it 3 times the grill smokes like a freight train starting up but then the temperature starts taking huge swings

Tried to cook on 225 and the temperature keeps going over 500 if i turn the temperature up to 350 or 400 it gets down to 175 to 225 then over 500
