Pros

Lots of people ask if the instrument is chromatic. The mouthpiece and reed can be cleaned with the use of a gauze pad.

Buy from amazon using prime. The other sellers that offer free shipping often use fedex smartpost. Have fun.

The venova (especially the yvs-100) is for the collector/enthusiast who likes to try/experiment with strange and new instruments. I hope yamaha and other companies continue to experiment with unique and non-traditional instrument designs, despite the ...  Read More

Fingerings are a mix between a recorder/clarinet/sax. It plays like a recorder, with either baroque or german *.

The venova has great potential for what it is marketed as --- a casual wind instrument--appropriate for jam sessions with friends, busking on the street, playing in church. It's portability and survivability in harsher conditions make it very intrigui...  Read More

Cons

This is a chromatic instrument, or so it claims to be in the manual. It's far more difficult to play than a recorder, and more difficult than a sax.

It's so unfortunate because the venova is a really interesting idea. My conclusion is the instrument is a prototype and not ready for prime-time. It’s definitely not a “casual wind instrument” as advertised.

I am really enjoying the learning experience with the venova

I started with the yvs100 because of the lower price but id recommend to anyone to skip the 100 and go right to the alto or tenor version

While stating it is not a serious instrument is slightly misleading because i believe beautiful and engaging music can be creat...  Read More

Unfortunately those are kind of important pitches even for basic keys like g and f

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

You can hit the pitches but it takes some embouchure manipulation

The 120 can play an f by moving a finger which makes things a hell of a lot easier but ab and bb still require some manipulation

Btw dont expect the same sound youd get from a real saxophone

This is a piece of molded abs with a sax mouthpiece on it

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

However i have to knock a star off because the synthetic reed that ships with this is just awful

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

After a while i was able to fight with the reed to try an make it work for me but ended up just popping a wood reed on anyway
