You need to get the correct depth

You basically drill several adjacent holes to the required depth into the edge of the door where the lock will fit and then do a lot of chiselling to join the holes together into a slot and square off the edges for the backset to fit in

Youll also need to chisel out a small rebate for the door edge plate to recess into as well as creating the recess for the striker plate for the door jamb into which the latch and deadbolt engage

Having been under the impression our existing lock was made to a bs standard we were surprised to discover it wasnt so purchased a good quality yale lock
