It has an outer case which stays cool not the pillow itself

The pillow does have a cooling effect but does not hold its shape very long and must be fluffed each week

I think its the gel filling that is extraordinarily heavy and although it serves the function of being able to make it thinner if you need it to be thinner i am not sure that the filling is necessary for the cooling function
