You will have to load some info about your car into the software but you can find all u need to know about your car on the internet

The range is sufficient for use in the general vicinity of the car itd be great if it would reach in the house but for most peoples usage that much range would be ridiculous and unnecessary

I havent tested with any existing iphone or android apps but from a developers standpoint i can say that its easily connectible so i cant imagine that it would have problems with any of those apps

I give it 4 stars because of the get you on the software side which isnt necessarily their fault its the software companies who write applications for this it just stinks cause they want to price the apps very high for specialty troubleshooting
