Pros & Cons

Pros

I'd like to first clarify what these tapes are - they are not chromium (type ii), nor are they metal (type iv) they are the newer formula first produced in the early-mid- 1990's ferro-cobalt also a type ii higher bias than standard inexpensive ferro o...  Read More

Record test passed sound quality is remarkable! The 90 minute length is durable and holds up for many, many replays. These tapes have 90 minutes worth of blank recording tapes on them so there are 45 blank minutes for recording on each side.

The directional booklet for my cassette player (a tck670 sony three-head) says record at plus three. This allows the high bias tape to absorb any slight distortion and the dolby lets you record at the higher level.

Cons

Neither tdk nor maxell make hi-bias anymore so all we have is old leftover stock and these sellers exploit that fact. Product not as pictured.

Theyas in maxellshould still be selling these

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

It took me a long time to get the peaks right for recording as in where i should average the peak decibels to record at

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

I eventually came to five plus which means the bars never go above four decibels

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

They also say to record two decibels below the distortion point and for me thats like 7 on a lot of stuffsome records are louder or softer than others when it comes to decibels

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

For instance prince sign o the times is very loud and i record at around five or below while the smiths queen is dead the newly remastered version is softer and i record at a 7 recording level

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Recording level is how much sound is filtered through the cassette player onto the recording medium while the decibel count meter shows you howscientifically that isloud what you are recording really is

Now im not gonna say its always pretty sometimes theres an album like let it bleed where the lp was put together rather shoddily and the acoustic tracks are subzero to the rockier tracks

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

I will say that listening to these on a car stereo well the car stereo is a lot more sensitive than floorstanders and a good sony receiver
