The chimes have plastic grommets where the cord passes through to avoid chafing and the cords are pinned to the upper wood disc see the uploaded photo

Our old chimes didnt have any of these features with plain holes for the cords and they lasted for many years until one of the cords chafed through and the wood started looking old cracked and faded
