Many single outlet surge protectors prevent the other half of outlet being used because they partially cover the other half

My computer and associated devices are plugged into a power bar with surge protection bottom outlet in photo but i plug the internet modem into a separate surge protector top outlet in photo so that a surge coming in on the internet cable will not find its way to the devices plugged into the power bar
