They stretch horizontally to get them on but then they stay that way and i find that they slip down a little too much for my taste if i am only wearing say tights

They do stretch a little four stars because when i was putting one on the string broke and now its unraveling at the bottom

As you can see by the picture its made for women with thin legs with thin calves
