My son had a much more expensive rest on his fiddle when we bought it but it was deep with a high lip on it

It is optimal for people who naturally cradle the instrument just to the left of the tailpeg but accommodates a little to the right of that and quite a bit to the left and doesnt have strange lips or bumps to contend with which is nice since being plastic it isnt possible to alter its shape

This chin rest moves the mounting rods from the center towards the left away from ones adams apple plus the part that makes contact with your neck is more oval shaped and flatter thus spreading out the contact points
