It opens from collapsed and pushed down which as you can see in my pics is not much longer than my hand with the touch of the button

Then when fully extended and open the push of the button collapses the umbrella and a push of the end towards the handle returns it to the stow away size

I was waiting for a rainy day to test out this new umbrella and as it so happened it rained in my city the very same day that it came in

The umbrella itself has a 42 inch opening when can easily fit myself and both my sons with no problem unlike the other small compact yet flimsy umbrellas that i have that can barely fit one person
