    From the user's perspective, the thermal plasma's focused beam of heat is what's important for lighting a cigarette, or in reality, anything that can fit between the electrodes.

    The reason for not using this lighter to ignite something big and damp, is that while the arc is extremely hot, it's also extremely focused, so the contact spot is very small, which means that it would take a long time to heat up a damp object to its flash point, followed by its flame point.

    However, while i could stick a rare earth magnet to the housing (which is not unexpected, since it is metallic) the magnet didn't stick as strongly as i would have thought if there was a strong magnet in a solenoid.

    Apart from the loud whine, the other other potential downside is that the enclosed instructions are very, very tiny.
