One important caveat is that you need to use the sidekick with a quality ballhead


I have used this with the 600mm f4 lens but generally with the 500mm f4 telephoto

The sidekick puts a leverage load on the ballhead plate and the shaft that connects to the ball of the ballhead


The panning motion of the ballhead was not as smooth as i would like but knowing that all worked

I use it on a gitzo carbon tripod with an arcaswiss ball head and adds very little weight to my gear bag


I am using it in combination with a feisol ct 3472 and a markins m 20 ballhead


I ordered the sidekick the lens 7dii body with battery grip balanced perfectly even with a speedlite attached to the flash bracket


I found flexing with a less expensive ballhead that was rated for 35 lbs
