Pros

The build quality surpasses anything i’ve owned except perhaps a sony reel-to-reel i bought in 1972. Build quality is a delight to behold. Everything from low efficiency bookshelves to high efficiency klipsch's.

Amp is of such quality it begs for a decent dac and very good speakers. Only complaint is that the power transformer gets quite warm to the touch, and the output transformers also get if you are using this amplifier for home theater use. The sound is ... Read More

Black is super masculine with the orange light combination. Mid is sweet and smooth. High is airy and sparkling.

The r8 is heavy, about 50 lbs. Half of my weight is no joke to be lifting up and down the stairs. Paradise in a 68 lb handmade state of the art.

The difference between the triode and ultraliner modes is very noticeable. Both are fantastic with the main difference being that it drives woofers with more authority in ultra-linear mode. The only down side is no standby with tube amplifiers.

Cons

I assume most everyone else has had a more reliable unit, but be warned!

The upgraded preamp tubes improved texture and detail and took the edge of the highs without rolling off the treble

Running amp on variac 115v broke in amp 100 hours

Tube gear is more sensitive to input voltage variation and this really can not be helped

I routinely will check amazon for availability and got luck one day last month on the silver and black model

Product was delivered from hong kong in 7 or 8 days

So if your willing to wait on a long shipping time mine took over six weeks this might be the amp for you

Currently using with some klipsh rp600s and for a lot of stuff sounds better than the much more expensive setup i have in my main system

I’ve tried many tube brands and even tried nos mullards

I could never afford a tube amplifier then macintosh and prima luna were simply out of the question and way over my budget
