However, i did notice that a week after i bought it (and filled it up with all of my notions and wrapping) that one of the seams popped off of the zipper.

This doesn't mean that the plastic is ripping, no, just the seam where it is sewn to the zipper.

It's like plastic tarp that only looks that rigid if it is full and laying on the ground.
