The insert is a nice extra i used it to help press the meat flat against the cutting board and keep my fingers out of the way
I figured id take a chance seeing as the board itself should be fine and if the knife was junk id just buy a new knife and still be about the same cost as the next setup
Im happy to report everything worked great
