We often do not cook the turkey in it although its an option preferring to use the oven or grill to do that heavy lifting and this more as a warming appliance

This oven kind of like your standard crock pot does not have any kind of direct flame or heating element that would serve to brown meat

But for that reason after i washed it before i actually used it to cook anything i turned it on and all the way up to its highest temperature and let it sit empty for a good hour
