Pros & Cons
Pros
There's a very long intro that's both a bio of tolstoy and places the writing of this novel into historical perspective. Marriage proves a destructive force; yet love is another matter.
This is the only translation i've read because when i was first borrowing it from my county library, the three book editions it owned were all the pevear & volokhonsky. I want the feel and syntax of that language when i read the novel.

Cons
War and peace is the most overrated and rambling book in the history of world literature. The rigid upper class structure described in the book tends to be stifling and put me to sleep on several different occasions. I am far too used to more modern e... Read More

This book is actually a great read with the exception of the battle scenes and sequences throughout the story which were indulgent far too long and monotonous and supremely killed the pace of the story

I read 98 of it but the battle of borodino alone was over 100 pages of just straight unnecessary details of weapons strategies historical names archived data etc that just simply never belongs in a work of fiction

Nonfiction sure but never in a work of fiction like this regardless of its scope

The absolute worst part of the novel was the epilogue

Extremely inappropriate that it is even included in the text of the book

It should have been published separately as a supplemental work but never as part of the text of the book

It is endless existential prattle musings and preachy ramblings and rantings that literally go on for a few hundred pages and because unfortunately its the last thing you read its what sticks with you the clearest
