The rod heats up within seconds and within minutes your large tank will start to heat up as indicated by the tiny thermometer attachment

The one drawback is that the heaters go back to the factory set level of 79 degrees f if there is a power outage

However if you are raising a warmer water fish such as discus you will want to use a different type of heater that can remember its setting when power is lost
