It does seem that with the exception of samsung gear vr and google daydream all of the headsets are a variation on google cardboard
It is certified by google and has a qr code enabling it to be used with the google cardboard app very easily

Other than that its a great experience especially for the price

There arent that many apps available but the ones in the itunes store kept myself and my 8 year old son entertained for a couple hours

You align a little notch in the inside of the viewer visible from the eyepiece side in the hole where you put your nose with the point where the two eye views meet when playing something in 3d mode

You then use the button on the top of the viewer to press a piece of card with a coating so it works like your finger would against the screen as the way to bring up a menuselect an item during what youre watching

It doesnt have a qr code to scan to configure google cardboard viewer but the default or one like it is fine from experience

The standard way in the apps i know to control it is to use the button on the top of the viewer which is a coated ushaped tab of cardboard that hinges on a cardboard join inside the viewer very simple and will eventually wear out im sure but looks ok compared to the rest of it you click the button to get a menu look around and the menu stays in the same place so your view changes to focus on each menu item which animates to hint thats the one youre pointing at then the menu item selected by pressing the button on the outside again

The whole thing is held shut and your phone is kept in there by friction using a velcro strip on top of the viewer on a part of the cardboard that folds over the top

Having used it maybe 10 or 20 times since ive had it for the last 9 months the top tab that folds over to seal it with the velcro on has some faint creases in the card from pulling it undone to get the phone out quite a few times but no reason to think itll tear soon take a bit of care and dont rip it open too quickly and im sure itll last as long as the rest of the item
