As a trial i put the stopper over the drain and put a small amount of water in my tub not even enough to cover the tubs bottom less than 12 inch of water resting over the stopper

I mention this because a previous reviewer had questioned the purpose of the suction area which will obviously not be able to work as a suction over the drain
