The body does need to be very flat to swing freely and the small screwdriver in the package for declination adjustment is too large to actually use in the set screw

In fact it got stuck a little while seeking north but when i wiggled it or made the thing more nearly level it got there

The only complaint i had was that it came with a cord lock which was fine but which had to be rethreaded correctly

It will be a 5star product if there is an easy way to store the included small screwdriver with the compass so the screwdriver wont get lost and can be used to adjust the declination anytime as need
