    The author is also american and refers to the american school grade system which has different years/grades to the uk system - it's not a big problem but worth noting.

    The book is also really good at telling you it's ok to feel pushed away by your daughter, it's part of growing up, it's part of the process they have to go through to become independent.

    I was at best bewildered and despairing, at worst murderous as my 12 year old started secondary school and her behaviour deteriorated into something from a teen zombie horror movie.
