Cover the cameras ir bulbs place it inside the house facing out a window and then place the illuminator in another window pointing out in the same direction of the camera

As one has learned you cant face an ir camera through glass without getting ir reflecting off the glass back into the camera

The illuminator casts enough ir light for the camera to work problem free at night time keeping an eye on my front walkwaydoor

It does indeed put out infrared light but there is a visible dullred glow from each led

Another thing that is not mentioned in the product description is that it has a sensor for visible light and will only turn on when its dark enough

I did need to put black electrical tape over the dropcams internal ir lights to eliminate the glare coming from inside the glass but this was expected is the reason i wanted an outdoor illuminator and its certainly not the fault of this product that theres no way to turn on night vision on the dropcams without also turning on its onboard illuminators
