If you have a steel and it is not pretty skinny you may wind up with the same problem i had

I finished this with some wood oil and the wood grain is very attractive this block could be stained any color

I bought a set of the chef essential knifes and didnt care much for the round black holder that came with it looks cheap

However not only is it rough but the cuts in the wood are very uneven as you can see in the pictures

The part i was really unhappy with is the hole for the steel isnt large enough

As you can see in the second picture my steel wouldnt fit more than an inch in the block

I had to enlarge the hole with a drill and bit which was kind of tricky since most bits wont reach the entire length of the block
