Playing on every teen’s desire to look as good as everybody else and the extremes they can go to for trying to get accepted by society westerfeld uses various dystopian elements such as people conforming to uniform expectations individuality being considered as a bad thing and information independent thought and freedom are restricted to send out a simple but powerful message everyone is beautiful in their own unique way we should not conform to societys basic standards and expectations
