Pros & Cons
Pros
Uhf 380 (non-gps) & (1) vhf 380g (gps model). The radio itself performs great on both dmr and analog and the rx is * good.
There is third party software that adds many features to this radio and tremendously improves its value. I like the tyt md-380 better of my two radios because it has a top-of-radio rotary switch to select among talk group.
This radio is very popular among dmr users. It's arguably the best hh for amateur dmr use. It almost needs themdtoolz hack.
The tyt md-380 dmr radio works flawlessly on a 5w ht. It can do dmr/uhf with just a few clicks. Tools upload and uploaded dmr-marc directory it does more than any person can ask for out of a 5w ht. Great price to try out dmr, and for the price, it see... Read More
For under a hundred bucks this radio is built as strong and tuff as a $1,200. It's robustly constructed with thick plastic case. Tyt is a great brand on the low end but good quality and durable too.
Cons
The arcane programming interface is waaay to frustrating. The support for this new version is rather lacking. Worst possible documentation -- non-substantive and chinglish at its best -- totally useless.
The tytmd-380 is not ideal for hams (there are much better rigs) save up your money and buy motorola. The warranty on these is only a mere 6 months from the manufacturer, and the seller has not responded to my inquiry.

The radio is solid and well built
The biggest con was not enough factory directions to get on the air youtube vids are basically required if you arent familiar with dmr
2 antennas and programming cable with molded ends and strain reliefs
Price
After applying the hacked md380 firmware this is a great radio for the price
This radio is my second handheld dmr radio the first being a radioddity gd77 which amazon offered to me on a reduced cost timelimited offer
For under a hundred bucks this radio is built as strong and tuff as a 1200
Buy a second battery when you order this as they are very reasonably priced
Shipping
I ordered one on amazon and the first one i received had a hardware issue
Packaging/appearance
And what they say comes in the box actually comes in the box
Both radios were packaged exacttly the same from tyt
Like the long range antenna include in package
Competitiveness
Additionally i like the customer programming software better than others
I would bet this unit would handle being dropped way better than my bcd 436 hp 500
Other more expensive radios are even harder to set up so it is not the biggest problem to use
I still need to understand the differences between dmr dmr plus brandmeister etc and when traveling in europe a few days ago i ... Read More
