And the lights were wired correctly

I found that the top and bottom sections functions were reversed compared to my original one on the other side originally brake light on top and tail light on bottom on the new one the brake light came on on the bottom

I would suggest watching a youtube video to see how to remove it

Before you screw in the two screws to hold in the unit have someone press the brake petal to see if the top red light is on or the bottom

If the bottom do the lampsocket switch
