Why would you write a book with racially charged questions? Our dei directore at my school was frankly disgusted by the tone and leading questions.

Some of the pages dont have a correct answer at all and they just as an open ended question and it gives children the freedom to share their thinking

Another review complains that in two spreads there are black people which in their view makes the questions racially charged

I think they completely miss the point of the book nothing suggests that there is a “right” answer to each question eg that the author wants you to say the black woman robbed the bank

Yeah it is entirely possible that a kid will offer up a racist tale about how they know who robbed the bank and gasp that would be an opportunity to correct them

So while i do not feel like the book has an agenda it’s just pictures and questions yes it might prompt a discussion about race which you should be having because as they said it’s 2023
