The only resolution was to step out of the partially zippedup jacket remove it and wear something else

The problem arises from the fabric strip at the sides of the teeth of the zip which are sewed onto the jacket

The fabric strip is narrow when i compared it to the other zips

Most disappointing thing though is that despite being machine washable after a couple of washes it is not as waterproof as it was when new

Its not the warmest of coat need to wear jumper underneath it
