Pros & Cons
Pros
I'm definitely glad that i did because it was an enthralling and exciting read. Onto my critique. Well worth the read.
Traitor's blade, the first of the greatcoats novels, introduces us to the king's justice. The greatcoats are traitors in the eyes of the rival dukes who killed the king. The central storyline revolves around a conspiracy to put a new king—or queen—on ... Read More
Traitor’s blade” is a swashbuckling adventure, filled with clever mysteries and thrilling swordfights, in the spirit of alexander dumas’ “the three musketeers”. The author has a unique way of describing the sword fights in a very detailed and delicate... Read More
Just a really good story, excellently written. Good storyline and nonstop action. Plot of the main story is kinda cool, not the most imaginative; but decent.
From the beginning, i was hooked. Wavered between a 3 and a 4 and ended up on a 4. My only complaint is the ending.
Cons
The denouement of the book is a muddled mess as well. No one in the book acts in any sane or rational fashion. There are glimpses of an interesting world, such that this story could be reassembled into a better novel.
The musketeer, often having d'artagnan go solo, completely gets this wrong as well.
The author's writing style can best be described as juvenile. This is not a very good book and i cannot recommend it. However it's more like a book you would read to your kid before bedtime.
Highlights
Quality
Fast paced good character development great storytelling this book has it all
The equipment and weapons are grounded in reality and the magic system is subtle and not overpowering
You could feel the impact of the steel as blades met as arrows thudded into flesh and the pounding of the horses hooves as they charged
First problem with the book is it had a particular formula which i felt was very repetitive and had a poor effect on the pacing
Shipping
Those pages pass quickly and very enjoyable
On the day of the coup the greatcoats are pardoned in exchange of the king’s surrender
Competitiveness
You grow to love him as much as brasti and kest do and want him to find peace
The style and mood are close to lamore if you want a comparison
The tone is just a little sad and defeated in comparison to the humor of the spellsinger books
