I did this when the colander arrived and in a minute or two the outside was as smooth as the inside.
It was ready to spill over, but i caught it just in time.

I received the colander in a soft large envelope without any protective wrapping rather than in a carboard box.
Should have been definitely packaged better given the easily distorted construction.
