Pros & Cons

Pros

There are many factors that determine the overall longevity of an ice ball. I use purified drinking water, (when i used tap water, the balls were a little bit cloudy). We tend to pour hefty drinks and while one sphere isn't enough, two would be too ma...  Read More

Make sure the green silicone cups are fitted all the way in the styrofoam. Dry off the excess water and dry the outer foam pieces.

When that happens, the unit is completely full and ready for deep freezing. I fill mine while its in the freezer with a very small funnel in the spout.

Cons

Assembly is not intuitive and a bit of a struggle to get together snugly. Seems wasteful, which sounds silly as a critique for a gadget intended to make fancy ice. It’s still worse than the $25 i donated to the jeb bush campaign.

The design takes the rube goldberg approach to directional freezing. It's impossible to move it to the freezer without spilling enough water. The plastic, however, is very flimsy, and eventually cracked with normal use. Do yourself a favor and skip st...  Read More

There was spillage between the molds, straw, and styrofoam. Also, so much for not diluting my drink. Silicone molds much better all around.

Quality

And we are very impressed by the outcome

I was impressed with the clarity and ease of getting clear ice using room temperature spring water

I watched a few videos of the product and expected to be not quite satisfied

Once in its final spot in the freezer and with the funnel still attached i pour the rest of the water slowly until it just seep...  Read More

Packaging/appearance

They are a bit of a pain to get out of the containers

I generally make a batch remove the ice balls from the container and store them in the freezer separately while another batch freezes

Competitiveness

It produces satisfactory clear ice cubes for much less money than other products

The other issue i had was more a me problem but once the mold is full of water it easily spills when it tilts

Another trick i found was to twist the molds to break the ice when its done

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

The styrofoam insulation however although holdingup well after five uses must be treated with some care as they could break get damaged when trying to pry them away from the reservoir

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

If youre very careful and only fill the mold through the single air tube high point with a funnel and not allow any water to get inbetween the insulation and the mold prying apart is much easier

If there’s any leaking it won’t drip and freeze inside your freezer

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

In particular the outer parts of the silicone tends to bend up and out of place a little and the styrofoam won’t close all the way

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

You’ll see it when you try to push the two sides of the styrofoam mold together and they don’t close all the way

Look for where the gaps are and push the lip of the green cup down under with your finger until it moves into place
