Once you insert a sim card the system can be powered on this takes about 3040 seconds to boot up and get a lock on the network signalgps

To find the location of the device you can call or text the number of the sim card used you get a text back telling you the locations in coordinates battery status and speed if any a link is in the message you can just open this with a browser or use the installed maps on your phone no extra software is required to use this but you can install the app or go online to the tkstar website and log into that to use the tracker online
