It has a special sliding knot system and if it comes untied the tilley website has instructions on how to retie it

I actually sent one of his tired old hats back to tilly for replacement i washed it first of course as noted on the site ill try to remember to post an update here regarding how the guarantee comes through

I have worn this hat while doing every seasonal activity from speed boating to plowing snow with several dozen machine wash cycles in between the seasons

That was 10 years ago and the quality that a tilley provides is more apparent now than when it was brand new it is very comfortable durable good looking and although the initial cost is steep over the life of the hat it may be the cheapest one youll ever buy
