It works very simply theres a button on the side that you push whenever you are lifting the lid up or pushing it down

The only negative i could think of and its not enough to lose a star over is that the plastic has a bit of a charge so im finding lots of pollen and small herb particles do stick to the inside

Again not major its not like you cant get it off or out and if you are storing close to capacity you probably wont notice anyway
