Through fiery trials (tft) is a significant improvement. I've been immersed in the safehold series since the first book, off armageddon reef. There is almost too much detail, but it was so believable i almost feel like i am from safehold.

David weber is a really good writer. He writes fully developed characters that are three dimensional. Weber does a great job of maintaining the continuity over time.

The last five pages are the only real imoact on the series. Little of significance to the overall plot of the series occurs until the last page. It reads like filler of the boring day-to-day mundanity of a royal family.

I'm baffled that weber not only waited so long to have this happen, but that literally nothing was done with it.

He frequently gets bogged down in minutiae and tends to forget the storyteller's key show them, don't tell them. Who cares about the 10,000 character and mini essay on his hurt feelings?

When all this book does is make you wish the villainous archangels would hurry up and come back, you know you've gone horribly wrong somewhere. Hints of a new threat to come, but no payoff.
