Pros

Although the book is rated as used, it appears as fresh as new with dust cover. I find myself picking up this book and just opening it to any page and reading!

Barbara g. She does allow historical truths and a collective voice to resonate with the reader. This tome belongs in the library of any woman who considers herself a feminist.

Cons

If you are a scholar or an academic looking for reference or research material i would say look elsewhere. While i find the lack of scholarship disturbing worse is the defense of this book. If you adhere to feminism or to this particular book because ...  Read More

Barbara walker's "herstory" attempts to prove a supreme female deity. There were, of course, many goddesses in herstory, however to deny them their individual importance with a pseudo-intellectual monotheistic interpretation makes us no better than th...  Read More

History is falsified, mythology is distorted, and long-discredited theories are treated as fact. There is a lot of information in there, but most of it is simply not verifiable and much of it outright lies!

Like it or not there are some biases in the historical record and some of what the masses are told is more of what some scholars and socalled paragons of church authority say 34it should have happened34 rather than how it actually was

Too often victorian scholars were shocked again and again by how free women were and how openly sex was dealt with

More modern scholars are becoming aware of the discrepancies but i personally believe that would be surprised at how pervasive this bias in the historical record truly is

In ten years only once have i found an incorrect citation

Most people either forget or remain blissfully unaware that the first five centuries of christianity were sometimes filled with competing variations and there were hundreds of texts that were considered divinely inspired but never made it into new testament

Just like genesis chapter 1 is at odds with genesis chapter 2 so scholars are finding that the majority of the gospels and letters once ascribed to paul are no longer thought to be by him and the fact that they are at odds with the first half of the new testament is what has helped put the authorship in doubt

As for this book i find almost all the new testament referrences to be myths and yet a lot of the orthodoxroman chuch texts as well as a portion of the new testament written in the 2nd and 3rd centuries are a mix of ideas that came not from jesus but from roman and greek texts

She will probably never know how much of an impact she has had on womens evolution over these decades
