Pros & Cons

Pros

This book breaks down classical education both by subject and by grade level. I like that the book has a secular approach to education.

The well trained mind is a fantastic lay out of a thorough and in depth education. It is all about gearing the child(ren) to reading first and foremost. This is the first book new homeschoolers should buy.

There are suggestions for how to combine subjects to get more out of less time spent in lessons. This has the same basic info with updated curriculum suggestions.

It's worth having a copy to peruse at length, even if your philosophy is more relaxed. She gives great advice and encouragement. It is fun and inspiring to read!

Cons

While i love the classical modern, and i’m a avid reader, i don’t like the way the writer writes. At a certain point it becomes reactionary and actually defeats the real spirit of the high points of the classical world.

Author claims to be an educator and homeschooler. Book is full of anecdotal, tangential, second hand advice. Author shows feigned superiority with her homeschooling blog.
