Pros
Joe pike and elvis cole are two of the best fiction characters ever created. Crais has a pair of unlikely detectives who manage to solve murders.
It's gritty, and suspenseful and intense. Enjoyed the plot changing throughput the book.
Cons
The watchman is a mediocre book by an author who can do much better. The book is not much of a thriller and it's difficult to empathize with the characters.
The police are made out to be dumber than posts. Should have quit after the kindle sample. This thing seems to be either the manifestation of writers block or a contractual obligation left too late.

The cast of supporting characters are believable and well portrayed the plot is full of holdyourbreath moments and the backdrop of los angeles and environs is an integral part of the story
