I really enjoyed how adept the author was in describing the tactics used the mentality of a conquerer and the connection to greek ancestry

In contrast alexanders story covers more than a decade and only ended when his army got bored of yet another episode of empire conquering

After taking down way bigger armies than themselves they would say stuff like i was in on the slaughter of 20000 soldiers yesterday and all i got was some gold and trinkets and wives and territories and this lousy tshirt

    Couldnt put the book down

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

He has also cut away a lot of the fat that tends to bog down stories about alexander making this a fastmoving lean novel that while not stylistically spare doesnt waste time dwelling on pointless details

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

The pacing is very good better than gates of fire actually and while the beginning is a tad slow once pressfield hits his stride at about page 50 its impossible to put the book down

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Though a fiction work pressfield has incorporated quite a few historical facts thus rendering them vague between fiction or fact

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

It will easily fit as one of the top 100 fiction book written at the end of the 21st century
