It reads more like an english version of chinese translated cultivation novel like you would find on webnovel.

Com only with much more likable characters, less cliched villains, and hardly any your courting death type proclamations that make some of those translations almost unbearable.

You may not get some of the jokes or the raucous humor if you have no military background, not have any friends and family that served, or well have read any military stories.
