Pros

This is succinct, amusing and thought provoking. Great book, completely engrossed throughout. A riveting read.

Cons

History forced into this mould is biased. Rather than giving us history, he gives us a never-ending opinionated rant.

Hawes throws any sense of judicious balance to the four winds. He is guilty throughout of selection bias and sometimes just plain misrepresentation.
