The only criticism i have is that dawkins clearly did not anticipate how many people would assume they knew what the book was about just by reading the title i have had several people mistakenly assert that the book says the opposite of what it actually does

I have a problem with the loose definition of a gene

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Id rather see the math for myself because the way gene is defined in the book necessitates a probabilistic definition of what constitutes a gene

As well im not sure that gene competition is as universally principled as dawkins appears to lay it out in the book

Id prefer that dawkins included appendices or web links to the mathematical arguments pertinent to the claimstheories he states for that subset of us that is interested in that kind of supporting evidence

In a supreme irony dawkins book has entered the annals of the law of unintended consequences in that it is now best celebrated as giving birth to the idea of the meme the selfperpetuating idea whose characteristics are akin to the title role the selfish gene
