Pros & Cons
Pros
One of the all time great sci fi stories. Perhaps the most fanciful element is the discovery of intelligent life. To all readers of science fiction.
While the story can be dinged for getting much wrong about mars, the attempt to deal seriously with potential obstacles makes this story timeless. It is amazing how much he was able to foresee.
Clarke describes a nascent mars colony through the eyes of a popular science fiction writer who was offered the chance to visit. Martin gibson is a terran writer journeying to mars to report on the successes there.
Cons
The first half of the book is extremely slow and boring. The story plods along. For a visionary author, cannot overlook the lack of foresight.
Highlights
Quality
The plot is fairly thin but it doesnt have the episodic quality of much of his later work
Im satisfied with as a complete package
