Pros & Cons
Pros
There are quite a few nuggets i walked away with, from learning where the hammer and anvil were originally formed from, to learning how secretly guarded fossil finds were.
Brusatte's new book is a must-read for anyone interested in paleontology. The author explains how mammals survived the meteor that killed off most of the dinosaurs. He warns us about the accelerating rate of extinction of mammal species.
Very well researched and informative. Covers a lot of territory.
Cons
The book is unintellible. Almost every sentence is bungled. The one and only timeline of mammals is of use only for high level orientation. Modern * sapiens, still to these days, is not able to accept a complete gender equality.

In composing a grand narrative it does an excellent job but the scope of the topic clearly escapes the grasp of this book to handle on anything but a fairly superficial level

Critically there are no cladograms to outline relationships between the various groups and there are hardly any diagrams of the critical developments in dentition that characterize the mechanistic understanding of mammal evolution

Overall this book tells a very intriguing story regarding the evolution of mammals but fails to teach the reader beyond a rather basic outline
