Pros & Cons
Pros
This book is about 1000 pages long, and i read it intermittently but with pleasure to its end. This series is one that i revisit regularly, it's a good one. Am now halfway through the prequel, the evening and the morning.
Ken follett masterfully captures the full spectrum. This is the achilles heel of writers like bernard cornwell.
This book is incredible; chronicling prior phillip’s life and legacy. Scenic detail is so sensuous you nearly smell the dust from the rock quarry. Fillet captures all the details of medieval life, the corruption of the church and the feudal lords.
Cons
This book has a ridiculously small font! I am sure that it will be annoying to read with the sticky cover. This book is a long and tedious read that left me annoyed and frustrated.
William hamleigh has not redeeming qualities, nor any of the other villains. The violence was described in brutal detail, mostly because the villains are so one dimensionally evil, and the heros so saintly.
The narrative is unbelievably slow and boring. This entire series that i so stupidly purchased on the strength of the recommendations goes to goodwill tomorrow. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money and time.
Highlights
Quality
The storyline was very interesting and you could feel yourself immersed with the characters
A great read and actually fairly quick even with the 1000 pages

Although the characters in general credit their church with great significance it is made clear that it constrains behavior but there was much more to lives than that whether you were a member of the aristocracy or the clergy or the tradespeople or the military
