Pros & Cons

Pros

It matters what you do with what happens and what you've been given. Any way that works—that's the motto. Great advice about how to control your emotions and overcome life’s everyday struggles. Intelligent, informative and elegant.

Ryan holiday shares some timeless lessons on how to enhance your life using stoic's principals. Can't go wrong with stoicism. True will is quiet humility, resilience, and flexibility.

Steeling ourselves. We will get to where we need to go, somehow, someway, and nothing will stop us.

Cons

William irvine writes very good (er, better) books on stoic philosophy. These books of his are a delaying tactic so you can read a short book and go gee, i'm a stoic now only to just be the same person you were. It’s very flimsy and lacks in quality.

By the time you're halfway through it is exhaustingly repetitive. All downhill from there and mind-boggling repetitive. The historic vignettes in each chapter are repetitious.

Malcolm gladwell this is not. It comes off as this person (maybe) approached a large obstacle this way. We are supposed to emulate him because he ended up successful. This is not malcolm gladwell.
