Still using the present tense of her previous novels mantel constantly paints past times and memories – often unnecessarily possibly to delay the final execution but making the book over long at over 800 pages

The books arrived intact but the box was open one end not sealed so it’s surprising that the books did not full out

With about three years between the first two books in the wolf hall trilogy and then a whopping eight years until the final book came out it seemed to me that the author had to think herself back into the thomas cromwell character
