The teary part was when she is afraid that once she helps him with his goal he will not remember why she was doing it he may not forgive her and their longterm friendship will be lost for an unknown amount of time

One thing to note i believe this book embraces religion and more traditional views of god and heaven rather than conflicting with them but that is really subjective to everyones own beliefs
